Amos Fairbrother was the son of William and Edith Lavinia, of Eltham, London and the husband of Hilda Fairbrother of Ashford, Kent. He enlisted in the King’s Shropshire Light Infantry and volunteered for Airborne forces.
Private Fairbrother successfully completed his glider training and was posted to 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Pte Fairbrother was killed in action on 22 September 1944, aged 30, and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
