Major Philip R T Wright

Philip Richard Thomas Wright was the son of Richard and Gladys Wright and the husband of Iola Wright, of Burton-on-Trent. He was granted a commission and volunteered for airborne forces.

Major Wright successfully completed glider training and was posted as Commanding Officer, to C Company the North Staffordshire Regiment, and attached to 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Maj Wright was killed in action on 19 September 1944, aged 33, and was given a field burial by members of the Dutch Red Cross on 2 October 1944 beside Onderlangs at Arnhem, and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 5 September 1945.
