Thomas Mitchell Dunbar was born in Eire and lived in Essex, he enlisted in the Royal Army Ordnance Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.
Lance Corporal Dunbar successfully completed his parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 94/95 and was posted to 2 Platoon, 21st Independent Parachute Company. His course report stated that he was 'keen and intelligent'. He took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
L/Cpl Dunbar was killed in action on 23 September 1944, aged 24. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
