Joseph Dickson was the son of Mr. and Mrs. R. Dickson, of Bannockburn, Stirlingshire.
He was enlisted into The Royal Artillery during World War II and later volunteered for airborne forces.
Joe Dickson qualified as military parachutist on Course 24 which ran at RAF Ringway from 24 to 30 August 1942 and joined the 2nd Parachute Brigade which deployed to North Africa for Operation Torch later that year. He took part in the jump at Depienne and the advance to Oudna and was killed during the battalion’s attack on the airfield.
Pte Dickson died on 30 November 1942, aged 21 years, and is now commemorated on Face 35 of the Medjez-El-Bab Memorial in Tunisia.
