Lance Sergeant Albert Edward Chappell was the son of Albert Edward and Martha Mary Chappell of Camberwell, London, and husband of Martha May Chappell.
He enlisted into the Somerset Light Infantry and it seems likely that he was serving with 10th Battalion SLI when it was turned over to airborne duties in November 1942 to become 7th (Light Infantry) Parachute Battalion.
He parachuted into France with the Battalion in advance of the main Normandy landings and was killed in action on the first day of fighting.
Sergeant Chappell died on 6 June 1944, aged 24 years, and is now buried at Ranville War Cemetery, Normandy.
