My father was a chemist's dispenser by profession, and was posted to 195 Air Landing Field Ambulance on 24 December 1942, based at Bulford Camp.
Although trained on gliders for Operation Overlord, he travelled as part of the Sea Tail due to a shortage of glider space. He was delayed by bad weather rejoining his unit at Ranville, Normandy on 8 June 1944.
He later served in India, with 31 Company RAMC (British Military Hospital Lucknow), as a nursing orderly on Ambulance Trains, travelling throughout India, treating POWs and casualties prior to repatriation.
