Geoff Chater passed out from The Parachute Regiment and Airborne Forces Depot in Platoon 460 in 1980, and went onto serve in 2 Platoon, A Company 2 PARA along with Dilip Dey who also passed out with the same platoon intake.

After completing the residential tour in Northern Ireland, Geoff went on to serve in the Falklands campaign and left the Army in early 1983.

Geoff and I drew our suitcases (pandora's boxes) together at Sutton Coldfield. We were still green and just out of civvy street; without a clue about our new destination and what was required of us. Stepping into Depot PARA full of expectation and 3 days early was like stepping into Narnia for the very first time. Little did we know we were the advance party for 460 platoon and precursor for many a beasting session (character building sessions), Geoff you always did it with a big grin on your face.
