How we use cookies

Like most web sites, ParaData uses cookies.

A cookie is a small file that we put on your computer to help us provide you with a good online experience. It's the standard way of distinguishing you from other users of the site, and learning how we can make improvements.

There are two types of cookie in place on the site:

Cookies that help us understand how our site is used

We use Google Analytics to measure what people do on our site. This is the most common analytics tool on the Internet, and we use it to look at things like which pages are most popular, and which browsers people use. It's a really useful service for us, because we want to keep on learning about what makes good user experience. You can find out more here.

Cookies that remember your preferences

There are a number of instances where it's useful to record what you've done previously on the site, so we don't have to ask you the same question again.

Drupal – our content management system – uses 'session identification' cookies, which is the standard means to distinguish you from other users. For example, if you have signed in to the site, it’s that cookie which identifies that you are still signed in as you go from one page to another.

These are all standard uses of cookies, and we do not feel that they record any more information than they need to. However, if you wish to restrict or block web browser cookies which are set on your device then you can do this through your browser settings; the Help function within your browser should tell you how. Personal Data

ParaData is committed to maintaining customer privacy and maintaining the security of personal data which you submit to the site.

ParaData is funded and managed by the Trustees of the Airborne Forces Museum.  Your personal information will not be supplied to any other organisations without your express consent.

ParaData is committed to responsible data management and subscribes to the principles of data protection legislation in England and the wider United Kingdom.

ParaData collects personal information for the following purposes:

• Registering as a ParaData member

• To enable registered members to submit a comment, image or other material

• Where appropriate, to enable registered members to create and publish a profile page in the ‘Roll call’ or ‘In Memoriam’ section

• To enable users to purchase print on demand items

Your registration and contact information, such as email addresses, will not be published. Any information submitted as part of a profile page in the ‘Roll Call’ or ‘In Memoriam’ section will be published, subject to moderation approval. ParaData reserves the right to contact 3rd party organisations to verify Service details in order to protect the reputation and integrity of the site.

ParaData is available online, on kiosks in the Airborne Assault Museum and within a number of Parachute Regiment locations. Please note that the public are able to access the website online and in the Airborne Assault Museum.  Please only submit for publication any information or material you are happy to see in the public domain.

You may contact us if you wish to have your personal information removed from our database of registered users, from a profile page or if you wish to have a comment or image removed.

Log files

Each web page access is recorded in a log file. The contents of the log file are analysed on a regular basis to determine how many visitors the site serves, what pages they look at most, and from where they connect. This information is aggregated and cannot be resolved down to the level of an individual user.

Marketing

From time to time we may conduct marketing activities such as surveys and promotions and may request information from you as part of these. Participation is entirely voluntary and you therefore have a choice whether or not to disclose any information that might be requested.
