Lance Corporal Leonard Plummer

Leonard Plummer was the son of Frederick George and Sarah Plummer, of Bradford, Yorkshire and husband of Alice Edna Plummer, of Bradford Moor, Bradford. He enlisted into the West Yorkshire Regiment, and volunteered for airborne forces.

Lance Corporal Plummer successfully completed his glider training, and was posted to B Company, 7th (Airborne) Battalion, King’s Own Scottish Borderers, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

L/Cpl Plummer was killed in action on 19 September, aged 24, and was given a field burial beside Amsterdamseweg, west of the La Cabine pumping station, Oosterbeek, and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 7 September 1945.
