James Arthur Leonard Peters was the son of John William and Edith Peters, of Brentwood, Essex. He enlisted into the General Service Corps, and volunteered for airborne forces.
Signalman Peters successfully completed his parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 111 from 10 to 17 April 1944 and was posted to J Section, 1st Airborne Division Signals, Royal Corps of Signals, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Sigmn Peters was killed in action on 21 September 1944, aged 20, and was given a field burial in a group of graves by the side of a road near ruined buildings in the area of the Rhine Bridge at Arnhem, and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 29 October 1945.
