Sergeant Thomas Nettleton

Thomas Nettleton was the son of Arthur and Ethel Nettleton, of Newquay, Cornwall. He enlisted in the Royal Army Ordnance Corps, and transferred to the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and volunteered for airborne forces.

Sergeant Nettleton successfully completed his glider training and was attached to REME HQ, 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Sgt Nettleton was killed in action on 18 September 1944, aged 26, and was given a field burial by local Air Raid Wardens in the Onder de Bomen General Cemetery at Renkum in September/ October 1944, and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 24 August 1945.
