Alfred Edward Johnson was the son of Mr and Mrs Charles Johnson. He enlisted into the South Staffordshire Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Johnson successfully completed his glider training and was posted to 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Pte Johnson was killed in action on 23 September 1944, aged 25, and his mortal remains were found in the back yard of Benedendorpsweg 168, near the Kerkpad, with two others in August 1984, and they were re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 12 April 1988.
