George Henry Hogg was the son of Thomas and Jane Hogg and the husband of Margaret Hogg, of Walkden, Manchester. He enlisted into the East Lancashire Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.
Sergeant Hogg successfully completed his glider pilot training and was posted to F Squadron, 2nd Wing, Glider Pilot Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Sgt Hogg was in a trench on the Sonnenberg estate, together with Sgts John Graham, Lawrence Howes and Henry Parkinson. A mortar bomb dropped into this defensive position, killing all but George Hogg who was mortally wounded. He was probably taken to a Regimental Aid Post (RAP), where he died two days later. He was given a field burial at the junction of Orangeweg and Bothaweg, and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 28 August 1945.
