Douglas Hatton was the son of Samuel and Edith Hatton, of Winsford, Cheshire. He enlisted into The Royal Army Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.
Driver Hatton was posted to 250 (Airborne) Light Composite Company, RASC, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Dvr Hatton was badly wounded on 24 September 1944 in a German ambush near the Oosterbeek Hoog railway station and died of wounds at the Tafelberg Medical Dressing Station, aged 22. He was given a field burial in a mass grave 150 yards south of the Tafelberg Hotel, and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 3 September 1945.
