Private Samuel Hannah

Samuel Hannah, son of Andrew and Helen Hannah and husband of Mary Hannah, of Dumfries, enlisted in the King’s Own Scottish Borderers and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Hannah successfully completed his glider training and was posted to C Company, 7th (Airborne) Battalion, KOSB, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte Hannah was killed in action, aged 33, on 24 September 1944 and was given a field burial near the junction of Oranjeweg and Bothaweg, Oosterbeek, and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 28 August 1945.
