William Scales Warren, son of Frederick and Jessie Warren, of Birkenhead, Cheshire, enlisted into the General Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Warren successfully completed his Glider training and was posted to 1st (Airborne) Battalion, The Border Regt. He took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Pte Warren was killed in action on 22 September 1944, aged 20. He was originally given a field burial in the garden of a house on Van Borsselenweg, Oosterbeek and reinterred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 3 September 1945.
