Jack Carr, son of Walter and Maggie Carr, of Keighley, Yorkshire and husband of Catherine Carr, of Leyburn, Yorkshire, enlisted into The Green Howards and volunteered for airborne forces.
Corporal Carr successfully completed his Glider training and was posted to D Company, 1st (Airborne) Battalion, The Border Regt. He took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Cpl Carr was killed on 25 September 1944, aged 22, and was originally buried as an unknown soldier. However, recent research has identified him and a new headstone bearing his details was dedicated to him at a ceremony in September 2016, at the Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery.
