Jack Sayle, son of Walter and Mary Sayle, of Runcorn, Cheshire, enlisted in the Northumberland Fusiliers and volunteered for airborne forces.
Gunner Sayle successfully completed Glider training and was posted to The 2nd (Oban) Airlanding Anti-Tank Battery, Royal Artillery.
Gnr Sayle took part in Operation Doomsday. He died on 19 June 1945, aged 27 years and is buried in Arendal Hogedal Cemetery, Norway.
