William Eden, son of John and Mery Eden, of Ribbleton, Preston, Lancashire, enlisted into The Border Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.
Lance Corporal Eden successfully completed his Glider training and was posted to C Company, 1st (Airborne) Battalion, the Border Regiment. He took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
L/Cpl Eden died on 22 September 1944, aged 29. He is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial, for those with no known grave.
