Frederick Joseph Aston, son of Samuel and Maggie Aston, of Barnton, Cheshire, enlisted in the Loyal Regiment and then volunteered for the airborne forces.
Private Aston was posted to B Company, 1st Battalion the Border Regiment and took part in Operation Market Garden.
He is known to have been killed by German machine gun fire on the Westerbouwing Hill. His body was taken to 11 Platoon HQ at the restaurant building, where he was last seen. He has no known grave.
Pte Aston was killed in action on 21 September 1944, aged 26. He is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial.
