Geoffrey Cameron Dunning, son of James Dunning, D.C.M., and Margaret Dunning, of Dover, enlisted in the Royal Corps of Signals and volunteered for airborne forces.
Signalman Dunning successfully completed his glider training and was posted to J Section 1st Airborne Divisional Signals. He took part in Operation Husky (Sicily) and Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Sigmn Dunning was killed in action on 18 September 1944, aged 20, and was given a field burial by the Dutch Red Cross in the grounds of the St Elisabeth Hospital, Oosterbeek. He was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 24 August 1945.
