Philip Letchford enlisted into the King’s Royal Rifle Corps with his twin brother Arthur, both lying about their ages to enlist.
Rifleman Letchford volunteered for The Parachute Regiment in 1942, attending parachute training course number 36 between 26 October and 12 November.
He was posted to 1 Platoon, A Company, 2nd Parachute Battalion and served in North Africa where he was wounded. He also served in Sicily and Italy and was taken prisoner there.
Private Letchford was demobilised in 1946.
Phil Letchford died on 5 March 2015 aged 90.
