Corporal Alf Wilkins joined the Long Range Desert Group (LRDG), and was taken prisoner in 1942.
After escaping and spending some years in Italy, he returned to the UK and attended parachuting course R178 between 29 August and 6 September 1945. His course report states: 'Excellent pupil, confident, good leader, good parachutist'.
