Peter Axtell was born in Oxhay on 3 November 1926. He enlisted into The Royal Artillery.
After volunteering for airborne forces, Lance Bombardier Axtell served with the 33rd Airborne Light Regiment Royal Artillery in Palestine.
He was killed along with 27 other British soldiers when his train was bombed at Revehoth on the 29 February 1948. L/Bdr Axtell is now buried in Ramleh War Cemetery, Israel.
