Arthur Dixon, son of William Michael and Edith May Dixon, of Highgate, London, was enlisted into The Royal Artillery (Field, Coastal and Anti-Aircraft) before volunteering for airborne forces in September 1943.
Pte Dixon was killed on the first aircraft jump of training course 86 at RAF Ringway after his parachute canopy became torn. This parachute course, which ran in October 1943, was notable for the high attrition rate. Out of the 227 attendees there were also 15 other soldiers injured and 9 soldiers who refused to jump. Most of the injuries were sustained as a result of rough weather conditions.
Pte Arthur Dixon died on 12 October 1943 aged 22 years old and is now buried in Highgate Cemetery.
