Warrant Officer Class 2 Robert P Foley

Regimental Quartermaster Sergeant(RQMS) Robert Patrick 'Bob' Foley, was the son of Patrick and Nora Foley, and the husband of Kathleen Foley, of Hythe, Kent.

Bob Foley initially joined the Army with 2nd Dragoon Guards (Queen's Bays) Cavalry Regiment. He transferred to the Airborne Light Tank Squadron, RAC, (later known as 6th Airborne Armoured Reconnaissance Regiment, RAC) based at Larkhill, Wiltshire.

On 25 May 1943, B Echelon of the Airborne Light Tank Squadron conducted a live firing exercise at Cranbourne Chase, Wiltshire. The unit war diary states the following: ‘B Echelon shoot at Cranbourne Chase under 2/Lt. Rollason. R.Q.M.S. Foley killed by a P.I.A.T. bomb explosion.'

Official records state RQMS Foley died of his injuries on 26 May 1943, aged 36 years old. His funeral was conducted a few days later at Shaftesbury Hospital, and he is now buried at Shaftesbury Borough Cemetery, Dorset.
