Signalman Bernard George Freeman volunteered for The Parachute Regiment and attended parachute training course number 99 at RAF Ringway between 19 January and 3 February 1944. His course report stated: 'very satisfactory on ground training and all descents, as No 9 helps sticks to move quickly'.
Signalman Freeman served with the 6th Airborne Divisional Signal Regiment and took part in the D-Day landings to Normandy on 5-6 June 1944.
Signalman Freeman died on 6 June 1944, aged 19 years old. He is now buried at Ranville War Cemetery, Normandy.
