My father, John Alcock (Jack), told me that he and John Lord used to check each others appearance before going on parade.

Both of these men were ex-guardsmen. CSM J Alcock, my father,fought at Dunkirk with the Coldstream Guards. He was put on a charge when he got back because he had one item of equipment missing. He joined 2 SAS in 1943 in North Africa and went on to win the Croix de Guerre with silver Star.
