The KAP-3 was an automatic parachute opening device used by the Joint Services Freefall Trials Team during its evaluation and development work. It was designed to activate at 2000 feet if the parachute had not already been deployed. A technique for parachuting extra equipment packed into a freefall bundle opened by a KAP-3 was also developed, with the freefalling parachutists following the bundle to its impact point.
