Based on the total number of men, the number of officers and their trades this is most certainly HQ-company of 1st Battalion. 'Barreted' men seated l-t-r 8-17: CQSM ?, Lt Jessop (mortars), Lt Perrin-Brown, 2nd Lt Lloyd (signals), Lt Rees (admin), CSM ?, Major Conron (CO), Lt Hibbert (mortars), Capt Haggie (MO) and Lt Disney/Disley (admin). There were 2 mortar officers probably because in addition to a mortar platoon each rifle company had 2 mortar detachemnts (probably fielding 8 mortars in total). In the backrows most of the men of the 1942 mortar platoon picture (also on paradata) can be identified: back row l-t-r 14-25: Sgt Rannie, Pte's Guest, Hughes, Mayers, ?, Gwatkin, Walker, ?, ?, Frankie Garlick, Drew and Cpl Evans. 2nd row from the back 17-18: Lcpl Douglas-Kerr and Pvt Crossland.
