The picture shows the Dakota used by Gen Sir Kenneth Darling as C-in-C Allied Forces Northern Europe,1967-69. The aircraft had an RAF crew and was based at Fornebu Military Airbase, Oslo. With a VIP fit it seated only six passengers which always annoyed General Darling, being a former wartime Parachute Battalion Commander!
The picture which is probably taken at Bodo airfield in the Summer of 1967 shows the two Norwegian helicopter pilots along with Lady Darling (died 1990); Admiral Storheill (a Norwegian who won 3 DSCs on the Murmansk convoys in WWII) and Captain Hew Pike who was then ADC to General Darling.
