John Buck was an enthusiastic parachutist; here he is pictured with Army Parachute Instructors and two RAF aircrew, having scrounged a lift on an experimental jump at the Airlanding School New Delhi (Willingdon Airfield) in Dec 1941. Willingdon was named after a Viceroy who governed India from 1931 -1936. The airfield is now known as Safdarjung Airport.

RSM G E Gaunt, though not in the picture, is quite possibly the photographer (as seen in shadow on lower right corner).
Capt John Buck stands forward on the left of the picture (wearing the prototype jump jacket), with RSM McNary (responsible for physical training) on his left.
The figure in the background between them is Sgt Smith, one of the Army Parachute Instructors who travelled out with RSM Gaunt in the initial party to establish the Btn.
