In June 1962 the PRA presented the Junior Parachute Coy with a 4 yr old skewbald miniature Shetland pony.
The presentation was made by Brigadier S L Hill DSO MC and the mascot was called 'Ringway' (where parachute training was first undertaken in the Second World War).
His first handler was Junior Drummer Kelly.
Sgt Ringway died on 4 October 1975, in Berlin.
JOHN CHRISTOPHER KELLY said:
He was presented to me in 1962, and I was looking after him when he died in Berlin in 1975.
As I was a junior at the time Army Regulations would not allow me to look after him full time so we also had a groom, Pte Red Ellis. Later that year we went to the Edinburgh Tattoo with Bruneval and Samson (the mascots of the 2nd and 3rd Bn) The guard of honour was commanded by Lt R Perrement.
