Description
Operation Ladbroke, the gliderborne invasion of Sicily, began on the evening of 9th July 1943. After being hit by friendly flak fire from allied shipping lines, 65 gliders landed in the ocean.
These men spent 7 hours afloat before being brought to the ship by a landing craft. The photo was taken by Captain Knight on July 10th, 1943.
