The city of Ramla, in central Israel, lies on a strategic supply route to Jerusalem. Ramleh War Cemetery is the largest Commonwealth forces cemetery in Israel.
The cemetery contains 1168 Commonwealth burials from the Second World War, and 891 burials from other nationalities from both the First and Second World War. There are also 525 burials of soldiers who were stationed at Ramla in the inter war years, and during the 1945-1948 conflicts in Palestine.
