Hamish McGregor's memories of the Blackburn Beverley and the XB259

Hamish McGregor's memories of the Blackburn Beverley

Also of interest about the Bev was that it could hold about 60 down stairs and about 15 or so upstairs - Pat will recall the figures better than me. However upstairs in the ‘boom’ one was then required to jump out of a hole instead out of the door,  in a single stick and after the main part of the aircraft had been emptied. In order to practice this aspect the dreaded balloon cage floor had a trap door exit as well -not for the squeamish!

The Beverley XB259 (the last Beverley)

I have actually included several other articles about this Beverley in past  ABN messages and it seemed that at one stage some guy was going to buy it and turn it into an air B&B! So very glad to see its now been saved.

With thanks to Hamish McGregor of the Airborne Network
