CWGC Bari War Cemetery

The Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery at Bari in the locality of Carbonara, Italy, was chosen as a burial site in November 1943.

There are over 100 Parachute Regiment and Airborne Forces soldiers buried here amongst around 2,040 graves, many from the sinking of HMS Abdiel on 10 September 1943, when the 1st Airborne Division landed at Taranto. Other airborne soldiers, who were killed in the battles to the north of Taranto and the advance northwards, are also buried here, along with some members of 2nd Parachute Brigade who died in Italy later in 1944.
