Today's Belgian Para and Commando forces can trace their origins back to World War II when the Belgian Independent Parachute Company was formed in the United Kingdom in 1942.
It later became part of the Special Air Service (SAS) Brigade and fought in the North West Europe Campaign 1944-45.
The Belgian 1st Parachute Battalion has retained the red beret and SAS cap badge and the Pegasus airborne insignia is still worn on dress unforms.
Profile under development.
