William Dodd, son of William Abraham and Emily Dodd, of Liscard, Wallasey, Cheshire, enlisted into the Royal Warwickshire Regiment and volunteered for Airborne forces.
Staff Sergeant Dodd successfully completed his glider pilot training and was posted to D Squadron, 1st Wing, Glider Pilot Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
S/Sgt Dodd was killed in action on 19 September 1944, aged 20, and was given a field burial in an isolated group of 14 graves near the junction of Oranjeweg and Bothaweg in Oosterbeek. He was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 28 August 1945.
