Philip Sumner Holt, son of Harold and Dorothy Holt, of Wilmslow, Cheshire, was commissioned in the Royal Armoured Corps on 10 October 1943. He later volunteered for airborne forces.
Lieutenant Holt successfully completed Glider training and was posted to 21 Platoon, D Company, 1st (Airborne) Battalion the Border Regiment. He took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Lt Holt was killed in action on 21 September 1944, aged 19. He was originally buried in the garden of a house called Oorsprong and was reinterred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 27 May 1946.
