James Irvine Trainor from Dundee, son of William and Sarah Trainor, husband of Margaret Trainor and father of Anne, enlisted into The Black Watch.
After volunteering for airborne forces he attended parachute course 38, which ran at RAF Ringway from 20 November to 1 December 1942. He was posted to D Company, The 5th (Scottish) Parachute Battalion (5th Para Bn) and went to North Africa on Operation Torch.
The 5th Para Bn took part in the seaborne landings in Italy in September 1943. Private Trainor was Killed in Action on 23 December 1943, aged 20 years old.
Private Trainor was reinterred at Sangro River War Cemetery, near Taranto, Italy on 11 July 1944.
