Lieutenant James H Strang

James Heaney Strang was the son of John and Mary Strang and the husband of Margaret Strang, of Dunoon, Argyllshire. He was commissioned in the King’s Own Scottish Borderers and volunteered for airborne forces.

Lieutenant Strang successfully completed his glider training and was posted to A Company, 7th (Airborne) (Galloway) Battalion, The King’s Own Scottish Borderers, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Lt Strang was killed in action on 19 September 1944, aged 28, and was given a field burial beside Zonneheuvelweg, Oosterbeek, and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 3 September 1945.
