George Eric Tiplady Brown, son of Mrs Katherine J Brown, of Keswick, Cumberland, commissioned into the King’s Regiment (Liverpool) and volunteered for the airborne forces.
Lieutenant Brown was posted to D Company 1st Battalion the Border Regiment (Airborne) and took part in Operation Market Garden.
He was killed by machine gun fire from a German tank in a wood on the Hoog Oorsprong estate, west of Van Borsselenweg on 23 September 1944, aged 28.
Lt Brown has no known grave and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the Missing at the Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery, nr Arnhem.
