Donald Harrop Shuttleworth was the son of Wilfred and Tamar Shuttleworth and the husband of Barbara Shuttleworth. He was commissioned in the Royal Fusiliers on 22 February 1941, and volunteered for airborne forces.
Captain Shuttleworth was Mentioned in Despatches in posthumous recognition of gallant and distinguished services in north west Europe. (London Gazette 20 March 1945).
Capt Shuttleworth successfully completed his glider pilot training and was posted as Adjutant to HQ, 2nd Wing, The Glider Pilot Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Capt Shuttleworth was killed in action on 23 September 1944, aged 33, and was given a field burial in a mass grave in front of the Hartenstein Hotel, and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 8 August 1945.
