Anthony (Kid) Yarwood initially joined the Junior Cheshire Regiment in 1977 but had always wanted to join the Paras. Because he lived in Cheshire the recruiter directed him to The Cheshires After six months he persuaded his parents to get him out so I could join the Paras, which they did and he waited until he was old enough to join Depot Para. Eventually joining the Depot in 1978 and passed out with 449 platoon in 1979.
Kid joined 2 Para, who were just ending a 2-year tour of Berlin and copped the last 6-months. He was then posted to NI for 2-years in Ballykinler - this tour had the worst casualty rate of any unit in the 37-year history of the troubles.
Having served in Belize, America, Denmark and Kenya Kid also went to the Falklands in 1982 with my older brother Nigel and 2 Para on Operation Corporate.
His role was two-fold he was a stretcher bearer for the battles of Darwin Hill and Goose Green before moving to B Company for the battles of Wireless Ridge - the same company as my older brother.
He transferred to the Military Provost Staff in 1993 to complete his service and settle down. He left the Army with the rank WO1 (RSM) of the Military Corrective Training Centre.
