Donald Walter Bowers, son of Walter and Hilda Bowers; husband of Joan Bowers, of Gildersome, Yorkshire, enlisted into The Royal Artillery.
Gunner Bowers volunteered for airborne forces and served with 53rd (Worcester Yeomanry) Airlanding Light Regiment RA as a member of 211 Airlanding Light Battery.
The 53rd Airlanding Light Regiment's first deployment was on Operation Overlord, which marked the start of the liberation of France from German occupation.
Gnr Bowers went to Normandy and was killed on 5 July 1944, aged 21 years old. He is now buried at Ranville War Cemetery, Normandy.
