Cyril Rennie Jarvie enlisted into the Royal Artillery before volunteering for airborne forces in 1944.
Gunner ‘Jock’ Jarvie completed parachute course 133 at RAF Ringway, 9 to 23 September 1944. His instructors’ comments: "Good performer, keen and cheerful". He was posted to No 2 Forward Observer Unit, Royal Artillery.
He saw action in the Ardennes before going on Operation Varsity where he was shot whilst jumping onto the drop zone on 24 March 1945, aged 21 years old.
Gunner Jarvie has no known grave but is commemorated on Panel 2 of the Groesbeek Memorial at the Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery.
