Ronald William Thompson was born 4 April 1922 in Devonport.
He enlisted at Plymouth on 28 July 1941 into the Royal Corps of Signals, aged 19. On 26 June 1942 Signalman Thompson was posted to the Airborne Divisional Signals.
In May 1943 he embarked for service overseas, disembarking in North Africa ten days later.
On 26 December 1943 he embarked for the UK, arriving on 4 January 1944.
Signalman Thompson was then sent to North West Europe in August 1944, and then to Norway with the British Liberation Army in May 1945. He was posted to the 1st Airborne Corps Signals on 8 November 1945, before being taken off the strength of the unit and posted to the Middle East Forces.
He was appointed acting Lance Corporal in July 1946, and Acting Corporal in August 1946.
A/Cpl Thompson was demobbed on 31 August 1946.
Ronald Thompson died on 30 May 1979.
