Colonel Graham D Farrell MBE

Col GD (Graham) Farrell MBE died on 3 September 2024. Graham had been ill for some time but bore this with great strength and dignity. Once his situation had further deteriorated, only a few days ago he was moved to a Care home in Fleet.

Graham was born in 1935 and after rising to the rank of Sgt (MMG Pl 2 PARA), he was commissioned on an SSC into PARA in 1956.

Notable among his appointments were: GSO2 ASD 14 MOD 1970-73, DAA & QMG HQ 16 PARA Bde 1975-6, CO Dep PARA & AB Forces 1977-9 MA to C-in-C AFNORTH (then Gen Sir Anthony Farrar-Hockley late PARA)1979-81. His last significant regimental appointment was Regimental Colonel The Parachute Regiment 1981-4. He was then posted to the High Commission in Australia after which he went to Cyprus as Garrison Commander. He retired in 1991.

Graham undertook numerous overseas tours including in Bahrain and in Aden where he was OC A Coy 1 PARA. He undertook several tours in NI and in 1975 he was awarded an MID.
