Arthur S Dodgson joined the Army on 29 June 1939. He served with The Grenadier Guards before volunteering for the airborne forces.
RAF Ringway parachute instruction course reports list Arthur as being a Private in The 4th Para Bn. This course, number 15, ran between 8 and 16 June 1942. It was a very successful course with only 2 injuries after 760 descents. Good moral and fine weather we believed to have helped the trainees and PJIs.
Arthur, shortly afterwards was posted to the 1st Para Bn, T Coy, 11 Pln. He served in N. Africa and finally whilst on operations in Italy, he was taken POW. On 14 July 1943 he was issued with the POW number 27848.
On 7 September 1946 Arthur was 'extracted NSRW' (Reserves).
